New research suggests that those who suffer from depression and contemplate suicide may exhibit warning signs to loved ones or close friends before attempting the act.
The Recorder and Times reports that while not all people who are depressed become suicidal, those who exhibit certain behaviors may be considering taking their own life.
Individuals who repeatedly talks about death and reference how all of their problems will be over soon, or how things would be much better if they weren't around, may be contemplating suicide.
If a person gives away personal possessions without a reason that may also be another sign.
Individuals who increase their use of drugs or alcohol are considered to be doing so as a way to remedy emotional pain. They also view these substances as a way to remove the fear of death, and studies have found that those who commit suicide are often drunk or high.
Researchers have found that a person becomes suicidal when they feel they have lost something, whether it be the death of a loved one, loss of financial security or feeling they have lost their identity.
It has also been noted that a person who attempts suicide doesn't necessarily want to die, but is seeking emotional support and an escape from the pain they are suffering.
