A recovery center for troubled teens recently opened in Ohio, according to NBC news affiliate WDTN.

The news provider reports that the new facility is designed to help children between the ages 12 and 18 who have behavioral and addiction issues. The center currently houses nine troubled teens while several other adolescents are receiving outpatient treatment.

The program, which was inspired by a women's recovery center in a nearby Ohio community, aims to prepare individuals with the tools needed to contribute to society. One of the therapists who works at the teen center told the media outlet that most of the kids suffer from multiple emotional disorders.

Programs that are built exclusively for at-risk children, such as nature-based programs and summer boot camps, are proven to be effective. According to a study by the Outdoor Behavioral Healthcare Industry Council, more than 80 percent of parents and 90 percent of graduates of wilderness therapy reported that their experience was beneficial.

Approximately 83 percent of teens said they felt better after their outdoor expedition.
