While many musicians over the years have garnered attention for their self-destructive behavior, there is a rock band that is trying to spread a positive message to kids.

According to the Calabasas Patch, the band Later Days has created a program that encourages adolescents to stay away from tobacco, drugs and alcohol. The four-piece act, which won a battle of the bands competition in Los Angeles three months ago, is taking their success to local schools in order to promote healthy behavior.

The lead singer told the news source that the band was inspired after the drummer's brother made a series of bad decisions and became a shell of his former self. The program has garnered so much success that government organizations have started to fund the band.

The California Highway Patrol and Impact Teen Drivers groups have recently partnered with the band to help spread awareness about the importance of responsible driving.

Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) reports that motor vehicle crashes are the number one cause of death among individuals ages 15 to 20. Approximately 28 percent of those who were killed had been drinking.
