Old-Fashioned Values - Work Hard, Respect Yourself and Others

"Early to bed; early to rise..."
"Work hard together; play hard together."
"A man is only as good as his word."

Located in beautiful Escalante, Utah, Turn-About offers teens something they rarely get these days: a rite of passage. As students take responsibility for their horses and learn how to work as a team they discover just how capable they are of really doing something with their lives. Defiant teens who refuse to participate in family life find particular success at Turn-About Ranch. Many of these teens simply do not believe that how they act matters - and Turn-About Ranch is the place they discover just how profoundly right-action can impact the world around them.

Why Horses?

The horses play an important part in the therapeutic process. The interaction between the student and his or her horse teaches them many valuable lessons, such as the value of patience and the need to be focused, connected, and committed. Through direct experience and interaction with these animals, children learn the effects of attitude on their own life and the lives of those around them. They see how their attitudes and behaviors affect the animal put in their care.

Traditional standards and beliefs are not only taught but practiced at this historic, real life, cow and horse ranch. Your teen starts out at "Roundy Camp," an old fashioned "frontier" environment with a log cabin, log barn, and log chicken house, As they adjust to a structured environment, students begin to learn that privileges are earned, and they begin to lose their exaggerated sense of entitlement.

As a parent do sometimes wonder if your teen truly understands the importance of honesty, respect, teamwork and accountability? Do you feel as if you teen's values are out of sync with what you believe will allow them to have a happy and successful life? Sometimes what that teen needs is to leave their familiar surroundings to effect real changes: changes created by being in a different place, doing different things, being around different people, realizing that life is not what it seemed to be.
